THE BIOLOGOS FOUNDATION, THEISTIC EVOLUTIONISTS, AND UNDERMINING SCRIPTURE

While Biologos claims that they have a high view of Scripture, they do not.

Calvin Wray, in an article featured by the Biologos Foundation, which has been funded to promote evolution within the Church, claims that the Bible had been rewritten (redacted) in reaction to Israel's experience in exile with the gods of Babylon:

·       "An entire generation of Israelites had been raised in a culture where the creation stories of their mesopotamian neighbors involved cosmic battles between gods and demigods fighting for control of the elements. The oceans (the deep), the moon and sun were given major roles in this cosmic soap opera. Because the Hebrews were familiar with these tales, reframing the creation story with Yahweh at the centre was vital to the health and spiritual well-being of the nation."

The alleged rewriting of the Genesis account, around 500 BC, does not represent a high view of Scripture, especially in light of the fact that the entire Bible credits Moses as the author.

Wray and Biologos do not come to their conclusions because of the testimony of the Bible. Instead, they commit the error of eisogesis - imposing the unbiblical assertions of Bible critics on Scripture and interpreting the Bible in "light" of them.

It is these kinds of interpretations that lead Evangelicals to rightly conclude that theistic evolutionists do undermine the Bible.

By Biologos claiming that the writings of Moses had been redacted (rewritten), they are undermining Scripture. How?

1. Scripture consistently attributes the Torah to Moses. It gives no indication of redaction. In fact, redaction suggests that what Moses had written wasn’t God-breathed.
2. Scripture claims that it should not be altered:

·       “You shall not add to the word that I command you, nor take from it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God that I command you.” (Deuteronomy 4:2; 12:32; ESV)

If the writings of Moses had been rewritten, they violate what Moses had said about them. Therefore, they cannot be taken as the Words of God but instead as the words of the rebellious who had defied the Word of God.

Sadly, this undermining of Scripture does not disturb the theistic evolutionist. However, it profoundly disturbs me and anyone else who has truly submitted their lives to God according to His Word.
